Flemings Pumpkin Run JUNKYARD Photos! Grippo Got Us The Good Stuff Right Here!
(Words and Photos by Joe Grippo) By now hopefully, you have checked out the BANGshift coverage from one of our favorite events, The Pumpkin Run held annually at Harry Flemings Auto Parts Junkyard. The car show is massive with everything for everyone with a love of internal combustion. This one-day show is huge so get there really early and make a day of it enjoying the show offerings and grab a bite from one of the many food trucks on the premises.
There are many side attractions at the Pumpkin Run like the sizable flea market and the intense competition at the garden tractor pull, but my favorite activity lies in the further rearmost perimeter of Harry’s business. This is where you will find the wonderful remnants of Flemings Auto Parts or what regulars call, simply, the junkyard. Once a thriving used parts business is now mostly just picked over hulks returning their elements back into Earth. Rusty bits that could tell quite a story, if only they could. I love wandering and getting lost in the piles of cars and trucks looking for details of their history, I always start by searching for hints of the dealership where the journey began for these derelicts. Cool stuff.
The huge variety is on display out on the show field, of course, but the junkyard certainly holds its own in that category. Maneuvering through the overgrown foliage of sticker bushes, trees, vines, and bushes, you may stumble on a 40’s something Chevy sedan next to a Fox Body Mustang lying next to a Porsche 944 across from a mid ‘50’S Ford Fairlane 500 Retractable. As stated, most of this stuff is too far-gone to be saved, but the final service of this stuff is cool photo-ops. Fall is the perfect time to explore this yard as the leaves are fallen (and covering everything) and makes for a picturesque setting.
